The stars have aligned at the Broadway revival of Pulitzer Prize-winner That Championship Season, bringing together a cast that includes Emmy-winner Kiefer Sutherland, Chris Noth, Jim Gaffigan and Jason Patric. Twenty years after they won their state high school basketball championship, this group of former high school athletes has gathered for a reunion at their home of their former coach, played by the inimitable Brian Cox. Broadway.com’s resident artist Justin ‘Squigs’ Robertson traveled back to 1972 to watch these one-time teammates and lifetime friends relive their glory days and air their long-standing grievances. That Championship Season is currently running at the Jacobs Theatre; stop by soon to get in the game.
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home. Photo by Matthew Murphy
